Rafique Rather expresses displeasure on pending bills in JK treasuries

Demands immediate resolution of pending contractor bills and GPF payments of employees

Srinagar: Jammu & Kashmir Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Spokesperson, Mohd Rafique Rather, has expressed displeasure and grave concern over the financial distress caused by the prolonged delays in the clearance of pending contractor bills and General Provident Fund (GPF) payments of retired and inservice government employees.

Rafique Rather highlighted that the unwarranted delays in settling these payments have inflicted immense hardships on contractors, retired employees, and their families. He stated that many contractors, despite having completed government projects, are struggling to pay laborers and meet out their own financial obligations.

Rather further stressed that the plight of retired employees is equally alarming and miserable and added that after dedicating years of service to the government, employees are being denied timely access to their hard-earned savings in the form of GPF payments. Many retirees and their families are now facing severe financial and emotional turmoil, particularly in the harsh winter season, when expenses for basic necessities surge.

The government must immediately intervene and address these issues. The financial security of contractors and retired employees cannot be compromised,” Mr. Rather said, urging the present govt to expedite the clearance of all pending bills and payments as soon as possible.

Rafique Rather urged the government for a transparent mechanism to prevent such delays in the future, safeguarding the interests of the employees and  contractors as well.
