We Must Unite to Ensure Govt that Serves People’s interests: Altaf Bukhari to JK Pol Parties

Apni Party rejects Delhi’s move to keep our elected powers toothless”

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Apni Party President Altaf Bukhari on Saturday urged J&K political parties for unity in demanding a government that truly serves the interests of people.

Addressing a Press Conference at Party Headquarters Churchlane Srinagar, Bukhari said that criticized the implications of the Reorganization Act of 2019, which split the former state of Jammu and Kashmir into two union territories.

Bukhari said that since August 5, 2019, the state has faced reduced governance powers. “The intention seems to be creating a state with minimal powers for elected officials, which is undemocratic,” Bukhari said.

Bukhari said that Jammu and Kashmir’s assembly was once one of the most influential in the country. “Even if not the strongest, our assembly should have at least comparable powers to those in other states,” he said.

Criticizing the current governance framework, Bukhari said that if the current setup continues to render J&K’s governance toothless, it will fail to address needs of people effectively, adding that there is urgent need for a robust administration capable of addressing local challenges promptly.

Bukhari called for political unity among all parties. “This issue goes beyond individual party politics; it concerns the survival and future of J&K’s people,” he stated, urging stakeholders to prioritize the interests of J&K people over political differences.

“It is imperative that we set aside political disputes and unite to ensure our regained state is empowered,” he said, adding that there is a need for a strong government to represent the aspirations of Jammu and Kashmir effectively.

Bukhari also expressed disappointment with the lack of progress in discussions with the central government on issues critical to the J&K

“Efforts to bridge the gap between Delhi and Kashmir must be mutual and comprehensive. If we delay action now, our chances may diminish,” Bukhari said, urging stakeholders to unite in advocating for equitable governance and decision-making powers.
