145 drug peddlers were arrested in Baramulla, 79 cases were registered: Police

Srinagar: Police have arrested 145 drug peddlers and recovered contraband substances worth Rs 1.88 crore from them during this year in Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
Among the 79 cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances  (NDPS) Act in the district during the first four months of this year and arrested 145 drug dealers, and 36 under the PITNDPS Act. Besides, 14 vehicles used for the trade were also seized during the period, police said on Wednesday

A police spokesman said that the Baramulla police have registered 79 cases under the NDPS Act and arrested 145 drug dealers, including 36 hardened drug dealers, during various operations from January to April this year.

He said that among the arrested drug dealers, 36 were arrested under PIT and NDPS Act while 109 drug dealers were arrested under NDPS Act.

14 vehicles and one lakh 75 thousand rupees in cash were also recovered from the arrested drug dealers, he added.

The police spokesperson said that 432 grams of brown sugar which is valued at Rs. 38.31 lakhs in the black market, 3.864 kg hashish worth Rs.25.75 lakhs in the black market, 60.97 kgs of bhang powder worth Rs.40.77 lakhs in the black market, 972 tablets of Spasmo Proxyvon Plus Plus with a black-market value of Rs. The price is Rs 58,000 and includes 61 syrups of Codeine Phosphate which has a market value of Rs 15,000.

Baramulla Police has registered 264 cases under the NDPS Act and arrested 464 drug peddlers during the year 2023, continuing the massive war against drugs.
