Civil Society Shopian Submits Memorandum to Chief Secretary

Shopian: To submit a memorandum regarding several demands in order to bring Shopian district on the tourism map and to resolve their other legitimate issues on a priority basis, a representative delegation of the district’s Civil Society met the Chief Secretary, J&K, Atal Dulloo at the Civil Secretariat Jammu on Tuesday.

The Civil Society Shopian’s Chairman Magrey Mansoor Ahmed told CNS that they have been greatly disappointed by the hollow promises made to the people pertaining to removing the backwardness of the district and bringing it on the tourist map.

He said that the important areas of the district including Peer Ki Gali, Sukh Sarai, Dabjan, Gudar Shukru, Shadab Kariva, Zaora etc, are the potential places for tourism, keeping in mind the scenic beauty there.

“A memorandum was submitted to the Chief Secretary in relation to bringing this district on the tourism map, establishing a women’s college in the district, and establishing a special hospital for children in addition to the maternity hospital,” Ahmed said.

He also emphasised that the people of a number of areas in the district have been hankering for resolution of the problems faced by them for years.

However, the Civil Society Shopian expressed hope and said they are happy that the Chief Secretary listened carefully to their legitimate demands and assured them of taking up the queries on the priority basis.
