Parliament security breach: Delhi Police register case under UAPA

New Delhi: Delhi Police have registered a case under sections of the stringent Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act in connection with the serious security breach in Parliament, a source said on Thursday.

An FIR has been filed under some sections of the UAPA, besides various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), the Delhi police source said on condition on anonymity.

In a serious security lapse on Wednesday, two people jumped from the Lok Sabha visitors’ gallery into the chamber around 1-30 pm while proceedings were on during Zero Hour and released yellow smoke from canisters.

Both the intruders, besides two others who took part in a similar protest outside the parliament building around the same time, have been arrested.

A manhunt is on to nab some other people who were allegedly involved in the incident that took place on the 22nd anniversary of the 2001 Parliament terror attack.

The two persons caught inside Parliament have been identified as Sagar Sharma and Manoranjan D. A 42-year-old woman Neelam —a native of Red Square Market in Haryana’s Hisar – and a 25-year-old man Amol, an inhabitant of Maharashtra’s Latur, allegedly took part in the protest outside Parliament in front of Transport Bhavan with the smoke canisters.

“On request from the Lok Sabha secretariat, the Ministry of Home Affairs has ordered an enquiry of the Parliament security breach incident. An enquiry committee has been set up under Anish Dayal Singh, DG, CRPF, with members from other security agencies and experts,” a Home Ministry spokesperson said in a post on X.

“Enquiry committee will investigate the reasons for breaches in the security of Parliament, identify lapses, and recommend further action. The Committee will submit its report with recommendations, including suggestions on improving security in Parliament, at the earliest,” the spokesperson said.
