NIT Srinagar celebrates 74th Republic Day, Dir unfurls tricolor 

Director highlighted importance of R-Day, recalled sacrifices of the national heroes

Srinagar, Jan 26: The 74th Republic day was celebrated with great enthusiasm and patriotic fervor at National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar on Thursday, where Director Prof. (Dr.) Rakesh Sehgal unfurled tricolor on the campus.

Prof. Sehgal unfurled the Tricolor in presence in presence of Institute’s Registrar Prof. Syed Kaiser Bukhari, Deans, HODs, senior police officers, non-teaching faculty and security wing staff. It was followed by a grand parade by the security wing of the institute, where Director took salute at the March Past.

The mega function was also attended by senior officers from the Police department including SP Hazratbal,  Mashkoor Wani, SDPO Zakura Showkat Ahmed Dar, and SHO Nigeen  Javed Ahmad.

In his Republic Day address, Director Prof. Sehgal highlighted the essence of Republic day and its rich history.

He recalled the contribution of the makers of the Indian Constitution and the supreme sacrifices of the national heroes who laid down their lives for the country.

Prof. Sehgal hailed the services of the Army, paramilitary forces, and police in guarding the frontiers in harsh conditions and for maintaining peace, order, and internal security in the country.

“We should take a pledge on this day to strive to protect our country and have to dedicate our services and life for the progress of the nation,” he said.

On the occasion, Institute’s Registrar, Prof. Syed Kaiser Bukhari said the uniqueness of India’s great story is that this nation is achieving respect from the world taking a democratic path.

While paying tributes to national heroes, he said the sacrifices and contributions will continue to guide and inspire them to achieve the new feat.

Prof. Bukhari said this day inspires us to take our country to new heights of development and prosperity through patriotism, sacrifice, and tireless efforts.  “Over the past seven decades, India has emerged as a powerful country in the world and will continue to strive hard,” he said.

After the tricolor was unfurled, Director NIT Srinagar, Prof. Sehgal presented mementos to honorable guests from the Jammu and Kashmir Police Department.  He appreciated their contribution to policing and curbing crime rate in city.

Prof. Sehgal thanked everyone for attending and participating in the ceremony. He extended his special gratitude to the security personnel for their participation and efforts.

The function was jointly organized by the Security Wing and Department of Physical Education, NIT Srinagar. Despite bad weather, the function was held smoothly on campus. It consisted of a flag-hoisting ceremony and parade.
