PMGSY :Against 4800 kms target, J&K tells Centre it would not be able to construct more than 3300 kms

Srinagar, Jan 24: The administration of J&K Union Territory has told the Government of India that they won’t be able to construct more than 3300 kilometers of road length under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) during the ongoing fiscal against the target 4841 kilometers.

Documents in possession of news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that officials of J&K Government have conveyed to the National Rural Road Infrastructure Development Agency (NRRIDA) they won’t be able to construct more than 3300 kilometers of road length in 2021-22.

“Annual physical target allocated to the UT is 4841 km, against which, 1526 kilometer has only been constructed. UT mentioned that they may not be able to complete more than 3300 km, citing reasons like tree falling etc.,” reads record of the pre- empowered committee held on December 9, 2021 to discuss new projects submitted by the J&K government for approval.

According to the record note, UT was asked to submit work-wise constraints and plan of action, so that targets can be worked out.

The Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) is an ambitious scheme aimed at providing all-weather road connectivity to unconnected villages. The scheme was introduced in 2000 by the then-prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
