Delhi’s air quality remains in ‘very poor’ category on Wednesday

New Delhi, Nov 10:  Air quality in the national capital on Wednesday remains in the ‘very poor’ category but it is likely to improve gradually from November 10 onwards, according to the India Meteorological Department(IMD).

In its morning bulletin, IMD said “The air quality over Delhi-NCT is likely to improve gradually on November10, November 11 and November 12 but remains in Very Poor category.’’

The Air Quality Index (AQI) of Delhi stood at 362 on Wednesday around 11:30 am.

According to the SAFAR forecasting system, “Winds coming from the north west direction at 925 mb have slowed down, which is favourable for transport of stubble related pollutants to Delhi. However, its impact on Delhi’s PM2.5 is reducing gradually.”

“Today’s share of crop residue burning is 27% in PM2.5. AQI is likely to improve further but remain in very poor category due to partially cloudy conditions and shallow mixing layer height,” it said.

In some parts of Delhi the AQI plunged to the ‘very severe’ category, between (400 to 500).

According to monitoring center, in Anand Vihar the recorded AQI level was 435, Delhi University’s North Campus area recorded an AQI of 441, Pusa Road reported an AQI of 379, the Mathura Road reported an AQI of 422, Lodhi Road and IIT Delhi were at 367, at IGI airport AQI stood at 345 and at Chandni Chowk it was 356.

On Tuesday, the AQI was in the ‘severe’ category after having improved to reach the ‘very poor’ category on Monday.

Meanwhile, the minimum temperature on Wednesday is likely to hover around 13 degree Celsius, while maximum will be around 29 degree Celsius, the IMD said.
