Locals appealed to stay indoors as Poonch gunfight enter Day 10

Jammu, Oct 20 (UNI) The gunfight between the security forces and a group of heavily armed terrorists hiding in the Nar Khas forest area of Mendhar in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir continued for the 10th day on Wednesday as locals were asked to stay indoors.

Army has intensified search operations with heavy retaliation to the firing by the terrorists. Locals have been appealed not to enter the forested area till further announcement. The announcement was made from a mosque in Bhati Dhurian belt.

On Tuesday, five more persons were detained for allegedly providing logistical support to the terrorists a day after two persons were taken into custody.

“The gunfight has entered the 10th day with firing in progress,” official sources said.

Army Chief General MM Naravane also visited forward areas along the Line of Control in Poonch and Rajouri districts and reviewed the overall security situation on Tuesday.

“He was briefed by top Army officials on ground regarding the ongoing operations,” said Army officer.

Nine army personnel, including two Junior Commissioned Officers (JCOs) have been killed in the gunfight that started in the border districts of Rajouri-Poonch on October 11.
