Home Minister Amit Shah meets PM Modi

New Delhi, Oct 19 (UNI) Home Minister Amit Shah met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday in the backdrop of civilian killings by terrorists in Kashmir that has so far also seen nine soldiers, including two Junior Commission Officers die in combat.
The meeting came a day after the Home Minister chaired the National Security Strategies Conference, which was attended by senior police officiers and chiefs of the paramilitary forces.

The meeting also comes at a time when heavy rains and flood situation is reported from various parts of the country, including Uttarakhand where 10 people died on Tuesday, besides Kerala where heavy rain and flooding in the last few day have claimed around 25 lives.

The Home Minister reviewed the security situation in the country, in the wake of killings of civilians by terrorists in the Jammu and Kashmir, where a gunbattle in Poonch entered Day 9 on Tuesday.

The Home Ministry said the conference deliberated on various internal security challenges and discussed ways to tackle them firmly.

Shah is also set to visit Jammu and Kashmir on October 23-24.

Army Chief MM Naravane is on a two day visit to Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday and he has visited forward areas of White Knight Corps and taken a first-hand assessment of the situation along the Line of Control.

The Chief of Army Staff was also briefed by commanders on the ground about the present situation and the ongoing counter-infiltration operations.

Civilians have been targeted by terrorists in Kashmir valley in a fresh spate starting October. Two migrant workers were killed on Sunday and at least 11 people have been shot dead by terrorists over last month.
