Bill seeking safe and economical transportation through inland waters in Rajya Sabha today

New Delhi, Aug 2 (UNI) The Inland Vessels Bill, 2021 for promotion of safe and economical transportation through inland waters and a Bill to further amend the Constitution (Scheduled Tribes) Order to modify the list of Scheduled Tribes in relation to the state of Arunachal Pradesh would be placed in Rajya Sabha for its approval on Monday amid fears of Opposition uproar over alleged Pegasus snooping scandal and other issues.

As per the Business List of the Rajya Sabha for the day, Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal would move the Inland Vessels Bill, 2021 which seeks to bring uniformity in application of law relating to inland waterways and navigation within the country.

The proposed law would also ensure transparency and accountability of administration of inland water transportation and strengthen procedures governing the inland vessels, their construction, survey, registration, manning and navigation among others.

The Bill has already been passed by the Lok Sabha.

The Union Minister for Tribal Affairs Arjun Munda would move the Constitution (Scheduled Tribes) Order (Amendment) Bill, 2021 for consideration of the Upper House.

Among the reports to be tabled in the House are the one by the Committee on Subordinate Legislation and the other by the Department related Parliamentary Committee on ‘Attracting Investment in Post-Covid Economy: Challenges and Opportunities for India’.

The ongoing Monsoon session of Parliament has witnessed frequent disruptions and adjournments as members of various Opposition parties have continued their protests against alleged snooping, controversial farm laws and other issues.
