India reports 48,786 new nCoV cases, 1,005 fatalities

New Delhi, Jul 1 (UNI) India reported 48,786 new cases of the novel coronavirus in the past 24 hours, taking the total number of infections to 3,04,11,634, the Union Health Ministry said on Thursday.

The country witnessed an uptick in its daily COVID-19 cases for the second consecutive day. Total 45,951 COVID cases were recorded on Wednesday while on Tuesday the country saw 37,566 cases.

Besides, the country also saw an increase in its daily deaths as 1,005 more people lost their lives due to the virus, pushing the total number of fatalities to 3,99,459. On Wednesday, India reported 817 fatalities. The fatality rate stood at 1.31 per cent.

A total of 61,588 patients recuperated during the past 24 hours, pushing the number of recoveries to 2,94,88,918. With these new recoveries, recovery rate jumped from 96.92 to 96.97 per cent.

Now, active cases further declined to 5,23,257, which constitute 1.72 per cent of the total cases, shows the data.

Meanwhile, weekly positivity rate is currently pegged at 2.64 per cent.

Daily positivity rate was recorded at 2.54 per cent, less than five per cent for 24 consecutive days, the Ministry added.

According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), a total of 41,20,21,494 samples were tested so far for coronavirus. Of this, 19,21,450 were tested on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, 33,57,16,019 doses have been administered since January 16 this year, of which 27,60,345 were administered in the past 24 hours.
