COVID-19: India records 53,480 cases, 354 deaths

New Delhi, Mar 31 (UNI) India on Wednesday registered 53,480 new cases of COVID-19 during the past 24 hours, pushing the country caseload to 1,21,49,335.

The country witnessed 354 deaths, which is the highest in there months, mounting the death toll to 1,62,468, as per the Union health ministry update.

The active cases rose by 11,846 to stand at 5,52,566. It is now 4.55 per cent of the total caseload.

The past 24 hours saw 41,280 people recovering from the deadly virus, taking the total recovery count to 1,14,34,301, which is 94.11 per cent of the case tally. The fatality rate stood at 1.34 per cent.

Meanwhile, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) said that a total of 24,36,72,940 samples have been tested so far for coronavirus. Out of this, 10,22,915 were tested in the past one day.

On the vaccination front, a total of 6,30,54,353 vaccine doses have been administered, with 19,40,999 vaccinated in the last 24 hours.
