Centre’s farmers’ welfare scheme ‘PM-KISAN’ completes two years

New Delhi, Feb 24 : With an aim to augment the income of all Small and Marginal Farmers’ families across the country, the Central Government’s flagship programme for farmers’ welfare ‘PM-KISAN’ on Wednesday completed two years.
Under the ‘PM-KISAN’ Scheme, an amount of 6000 rupees per year has been transferred in three installments of 2000 rupees directly into the bank accounts of the farmers.
Initially, this scheme was provided income support to all small and marginal farmers’ families across the country, holding cultivable land up to 2 hectares but this was later expanded to cover all farmer families in the country irrespective of the size of their land holdings, excluding the affluent farmers.
So far, more than 1 lakh 10 thousand crore rupees have reached the account of farmers, the Government said on February 24.
On this occasion, the Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that over the last seven years, the Central Government has taken initiatives transforming agriculture.
Taking to twitter, Mr Modi said: “On this day, 2 years ago the PM-Kisan scheme was launched with an aim to ensure a life of dignity as well as prosperity for our hardworking farmers, who work day and night to keep our nation fed. The tenacity and passion of our farmers is inspiring.”
Our Government had the honour of ushering a historic increase in MSP. We doing everything possible to double the income of farmers, he further said.
The Prime Minister also asserted that efforts including for better irrigation, technology, credit availability, access to larger markets, crop insurance, focus on soil health to eliminate middlemen among others have resulted in positive outcomes.
He said that the Centre had the honour of ushering a historic increase in the Minimum Support Price (MSP) of the food grains and other agricultural products besides the government’s commitment of doubling the farmers’ income.
The PM-KISAN was formally launched on February 24, 2019, by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at a function at Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh.
