Poonch man arrested for sensitive social media post

Poonch, April 5 : Police on Sunday arrested a man for a sensitive social media post and filed a case for “deliberate and malicious act intended to outrage religious feelings by insulting religion or religious beliefs” in this mountainous district.

Official sources told GNS that Parshant Dutta, a resident of Surankote, was arrested on early morning by police following his sensitive post on Facebook.

The post according to police drew criticism in the region and the law enforcing agency swung into action and arrested and filed the case against him.

Confirming it, SSP Poonch Ramesh Angral said that FIR (46/2020) under IPC section of 295A (deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs) was registered against the man for his sensitive post. On conviction under the penal provision, any person can be jailed for a term which may extend three years or fine or both.

“A team of experts is keeping a vigil on all the social media sites and those posting any sensitive matter with potential to create disturbances will not be spared,” he said, adding, “Appropriate action will be taken against whosoever posts anything sensitive on any social media platform.”
