Naidu calls for RS leader’s meeting to decide on duration of session

New Delhi, Mar 23 :, Rajya Sabha Chairman, M Venkaiah Naidu, on Monday, called a meeting of leaders in Upper House, to take stock of the situation over the spread of Coronavirus and duration of the ongoing Budget session.
According to Rajya Sabha Secretariat, the leaders would discuss about the postponement of the proceedings of the House, in the wake of the spread of the virus.
The meeting would be held at 1330 hours in the Chairman’s office, in the Parliament, an official said.
Earlier, the leaders of Opposition parties, including the Congress, the Trinamool Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) had demanded to Mr Naidu to halt the session, citing the threat of coronavirus.
On Sunday, the Delhi Chief Minsiter Arvind Kejriwal, had announced a complete lockdown in the national capital from 0600 hours today to March 31, to contain the spread of the virus.
The second leg of the Budget session, which was earlier scheduled to conclude on April 3, was likely to be concluded today after passage of the Finance Bill in the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha.
