India and Indonesia pledge to boost ties and strengthen Strategic Partnership

Osaka (Japan), :  India and Indonesia on Saturday pledged to boost bilateral ties and focus on taking the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership further.
This was stated by Ministry of External Affairs spokesman Raveesh Kumar here on the sidelines of the G20 Summit here.
“At the bilateral talks between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Indonesian President Joko Widodo, there was a view that since the elections in both the countries are over, now it was time for both the countries towards strengthening the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership which was established during the last visit of Prime Minister Modi to Indonesia,” Mr Kumar said.
Discussions between two leaders basically focused on four major areas including sharing of perspectives on the Indo Pacific.
The two leaders also spoke about trade and investment and there was “some discussions on how we can deepen the maritime cooperation and also to take the defence relationship to the next level”.
There was a target set for trade of 50 Billion US dollars by 2025 and the two leaders agreed that both sides need to work to achieve the target.
Prime Minister also met Brazil President Jair Bolsonaro held wide-ranging discussions on bilateral relationship, specially cooperation in trade and investment, agriculture and bio-fuels in the context of climate change, MEA spokesman said.
India and Brazil will be celebrating 75 years of establishment of diplomatic relations in 2023, he said both PM Modi and President Jair Bolsonaro agreed that some teams from both the countries will be put on work to start the preparations in right earnest.
Prime Minister in his meeting with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan discussed among other things about defence manufacturing.
“There was recognition that in terms of trade, there was plenty of opportunities,” MEA spokesman said adding it was decided that the Joint Economic Committee meeting should take place at the earliest.
Both the leaders also spoke on subjects such as counter-terrorism, IT and civil aviation.
