More revolt in NPF party of Nagaland, resignations continue

Kohima,  :  In a further impede to the regional party of Nagaland, the Naga People’s Front (NPF), seven more Central Office Bearers (COB), of the NPF today announced their resignation from the party yesterday.

According to sources, in a letter to NPF President Dr Shurhozelie Liezietsu, NPF Central General Secretary Akang, Secretary Central Nokshom Konyak, NPF Central Youth Wing Vice-President Honpha Konyak and NPF Central Youth Wing general Secretary Kapwang Konyak also announced their resignation from active and primary membership of the party. They also informed the NPF President that they are joining Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) under the leadership of President Chingwang Konyak and Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio.

In a separate letter to Liezietsu, the members sent their resignations to party President through two separate letters. In their letter to Liezietsu, NPF Central Office Bearer, General Secretary B Bangtick Phom, NPF (COB) Secretary Bongshin Yanlem and CEC member from Tamlu Assembly constituency B Athy said they decided to resign from primary and active party membership and their respective party posts in protest against the suspension order served to sitting MLA, B S Nganlang, which they termed as unjust. The three clarified that the seven suspended MLAs and their supporters decided to support the NDPP candidate in the absence of an official NPF candidate in the recently-concluded Lok Sabha election. They asserted that NPF office had no moral right to suspend the seven NPF MLAs as rest of the opposition MLAs voted in favour of the Congress candidate.

Meanwhile, show cause notice has been served to the Tuensang Division of NPF, who resigned en-masse yesterday, for failing “to uphold party’s collective decision to honour and respect as party functionaries.”
In a notice issued yesterday by Disciplinary Action Committee (DAC) Convener Blaise Iheilung and DAC Member Secretary Tsumongo Ovung stated that “the Disciplinary Action Committee has taken serious note for your anti-party activities for supporting a political opponent candidate” in the recently concluded Parliamentary Election to the lone Nagaland Parliamentary Constituency which is against the party collective decision. The notice reminded them that while being appointed as party office bearers, they had signed a pledge to remain faithful and loyal to the party constitution and be subjected to the party principle and ideology. It stated that by supporting the party’s political opponent, the members had failed in upholding the party’s collective decision. The members have been directed to respond within seven days as to why disciplinary action should not be initiated against them.
