Srinagar, : Train service was suspended on Friday for security reasons in south Kashmir, where two militants were killed by security forces in an encounter during a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) in Shopian district.
Train service in north Kashmir between Srinagar-Badgam and Baramulla was normal, a railway official told UNI.
He said train service between Badgam-Srinagar-Anatnag-Qazigund in south Kashmir to Banihal in Jammu region was suspended after 1000 hrs.
‘We received an advisory from police to suspend the service,’ he said, adding that railway authorities are acting on the advice of local administration who are taking the decision in the interest of safety and security of passengers. A number of trains operated in the morning on this route, he said.
Large number of passengers got disappointed after they were informed about the suspension of train service in south Kashmir. Passengers, who had travelled in buses and cabs from different parts of the Jammu to Banihal, protested, alleging that there was no prior information about suspension of the service.
Train service has become very popular in the Valley as it is cheap, fast and safe against other modes of transport available.
