Noteban was a courageous step taken for betterment of economy: PM

New Delhi, Apr 5  : Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Friday that the demonetisation decision taken by his government in 2016 needed huge courage which resulted in betterment of the Indian economy in the long run.
“Noteban was a courageous step which had resulted in betterment of country’s economy in the long run,” the Prime Minister told a private news channel.
He said the banning of Rs 1,000 and Rs 500 old currency notes had helped his government in tracking black money and undisclosed income.
Asked about fugitives like Nirav Modi, Vijay Mallya and Mehul Choksi, who have fled the country, the Prime Minister said they have duped the country in the previous 10 years and the scandals did not take place after they were elected to power.
But they have never thought this government would come. After this, they got scared and fled the country, he added.
The Prime Minister said Nirav Modi was arrested in London after they have taken measures. His properties was being seized.
“The nation has a law and we are utilising it. But it is to see why these people had to flee, it was because they were enjoying under Congress rule.”
