Sri Lanka Navy arrests 18 Indian fishermen ; seize 3 dhows

Rameswaram, Apr 5 :  The Sri Lankan Navy arrested 8 Indian fishermen and confiscated three dhows on the charges of violating the maritime boundary and indulging in illegal fishing in Northern territorial waters of the Island nation on Thursday night.
Fisheries officials said here on Friday that the incarcerated fishermen hailed from Karaikkal in Puducherry.
The fishermen had set sail into the sea for fishing from Karaikkal port on April 3 and were arrested in the seas 16 nautical miles west of Point Pedro.
The fishermen along with the impounded dhows were taken to Sri Lanka Naval base SLNS Uthtara for interrogation. Later, they were handed over to the Assistant Director of Fisheries, Jaffna for onward legal action.
