BJP names three more candidates for LS polls in Odisha

New Delhi, Apr 1 :  The BJP on Monday announced names of three more candidates for ensuing elections in Odisha.
According to the announcement by BJP CEC secretary and Union Minister J P Nadda, the party candidate from Mayurbhanj ST reserved seat will be Biswesar Tudu while Abhimanyu Sethi will be the nominee for Bhadrak SC reserved seat.
The BJP candidate from Jajpur – another SC reserved seat – will be Amiya Mallick.
The saffron party, which has drawn out an ambitious target of putting up good show in Odisha in both Lok Sabha and assembly polls, also released the names of 11 candidates for state assembly polls.
On Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the Odisha election outcome will ‘surprise’ nation.
“Odisha will surprise the country this time; it may become second Tripura,” Prime Minister said addressing a ‘townhall’ programme ‘Main Bhi Chowkidar’ campaign via video-conferencing here.
The remarks from the Prime Minister have political significance as BJP’s prospects to return to power is seemingly dependent a lot on party’s performance in Odisha.
As it is – five years back, the BJP had come number two in nine seats in Odisha – Balasore, Bargarh, Bhubaneswar, Bolangir, Dhenkanal, Kalahandi, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj and Sambhalpur.
The saffron party’s prospects for putting up a good contest have brightened in Kendrapara after sitting member Baijayant Panda of BJD defected to the saffron camp.
In March 2018, the BJP wrested power in Tripura despite its organisational weaknesses by winning
43 seats in the 60-seat House in a historical victory that unseated the Marxists after 25 years of uninterrupted rule.
