7 killed in Budgam air craft crash 

Budgam, Feb 27,  At least 7 persons were killed after an Indian Military Aircraft Mi-17 crashed in Central Kashmir’s Budgam district on Wednesday morning.

The crash took place in Garend Kalan village of Budgam resulting into the death of 7 persons including a civilian and six board.

One among the dead was the civilian Kifayat Ramzan Ganaie (21) who according to eyewitnesses rushed towards the crash site to save people on board when it blasted again killing him on spot.

Locals told news agency CNS that they heard a loud bang and when they looked around air craft was in flames. “We rushed towards spot and found charred bodies. A little while after the crash a civilian lost his life after there was a blast,” they said.

Witnesses added that hundreds of people gathered around the crash site prompting soldiers to fire some shots in air to dissipate them. Witnesses added that the agitated spectators raised pro-freedom slogans.

A police official while confirming the death of 7 persons including a civilian said that two of the deceased were pilots, 2 generator operators and 2 crew members. He said a case has been registered and investigation started.
