Govt threw rule of law to wind to pursue its contempt for J&K lawmakers: Mehbooba

Srinagar, Feb 12 (UNI) Alleging that three senior politicians remained under illegal detention without any order explaining their arrest, former chief minister Mehbooba Mufti said when the centre can pursue its utter contempt for lawmakers by throwing rule of law to the wind, imagine plight of hundreds of Kashmiris caged in jails outside J&K.

Ms Mehbooba, who is the President of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), said it has been two months since Sartaj Madni, Naeem Akhtar and Hilal Lone were illegally detained without any order explaining their arrest.

“When GOI can pursue its utter contempt for lawmakers by throwing rule of law to the wind, imagine plight of hundreds of Kashmiris caged in jails outside J&K,” Ms Mehbooba wrote on micro-blogging site twitter.

Senior PDP leaders Sartaj Madani and Naeem Akhtar were taken into custody few days before the counting of votes for the District Development Council polls, which were held in December last year. Akhtar, 68, was admitted to a private hospital in January after he fell unconscious in a sub-jail here.

National Conference (NC) leader Hilal Akbar Lone, who is the son of sitting MP from north Kashmir Mohammad Akbar Lone, was also detained in December last year in Bandipora.
