COVID-19: In just 15 days, virus cases break 78 days record in J&K

In initial 78 days of pandemic, 1668 tested positive, 2678 cases were positive in 15 days alone in UT

Srinagar, June 09 : In first 78 days of pandemic in J&K, 1668 persons were tested positive for Covid-19 in Jammu and Kashmir but in last 15 days alone, cases showed a sudden surge as 2678 persons were tested positive.

Official figures available with the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), suggest that March 9 to May 25, the number of positive cases in Jammu and Kashmir were 1668. However, in last 15 days, 2678 positive cases were recorded in UT which pushed the tally of positive cases up to 4346.

Pertinently, the first case of the COVID-19 pandemic in India was reported on January 30, 2020. Slowly, the pandemic spread to various states and union territories including the union territory of Jammu & Kashmir. Two suspected cases with high virus load were detected and isolated on 04 March in Government Medical College, Jammu. One of them became the first confirmed positive case on March 09, 2020. Both individuals had a travel history to Iran.

The number of positive cases that were reported from last 15 days in J&K are 91 on May 26, 162 on May 27, 115 on May 28, 128 on May 29, 177 on May 30, 105 on May 31, 155 on June 1, 117 on June 02, 139 on June 03, 285 on June 04, 182 on June 05, 143 on June 06, 620 on June 07, 198 on June 08 and 61 on June 09.

Officials told KNO that moreover, the share of travelers in positive cases in Jammu and Kashmir is decreasing of late. The share of travelers in positive cases which was once over 45 percent is now 36 percent besides that the recovery rate which was once over 50 percent is now just 34 percent—
