Poonch, June 1: Army on Monday claimed to have killed 13 infiltrators along the Line of Control (LoC) in Mendhar-Poonch region.

While three heavily-armed militants were killed in Rajouri district’s Nowshera sector on Monday morning, 10 more militants were killed in an encounter with army troops in Mendhar along the Line of Control in the Jammu division, army said.

With this, the toll from the encounter has now risen to 13.

An army official told GNS that in an “ongoing” counter-infiltration operation which started on May 28, alert troops of Indian Army eliminated an infiltration bid along the LoC in Mendhar sector and killed at least ten militants. The officer said searches are underway in the villages of Poonch district.

A group of militants attempted to sneak into this side from Pakistan-administrated Kashmir in the early hours of Monday but were intercepted by the alert troops near Kalal village, triggering a gunfight, army said.

Sources in defense ministry said huge cache of arms and ammunition were recovered from the militants killed in Nowhshera sector of Rajouri. They said searches are underway in both sectors
