Twenty Three killed in Columbia jail break attempt

Bogota, Mar 23: 23 prisoners have died and 83 others have been injured in an attempt to sabotage the prison in Colombia’s capital Bogota, Justice Minister Margarita Cabello said.
“Today is a very painful day for the country. Last night was a major and criminal attempt to flee the La Madello peninsula,” Xinhua reported Sunday.
Cabello said that seven of the injured are jail guards and officers of the National Penitentiary and Prison Institute (INPEC), two of whom are said to be in critical condition.
Cabello denied that the hygienic conditions in the prisons risked contracting the novel coronavirus, and dismissed it as a concern for prisoners and the motive behind the riots.
“There are no sanitary problems that could have led to the planning or the riots. Today, there is not a single case of infection, an inmate, administrator or guard who does not have coronovirus or who may be isolated due to coronavirus., ” He added.
