Police foils CLP leader Bhatti’s fast and shifts him to hospital

Hyderabad, : Tension prevailed at Dharna Chowk in Indira park here on Monday morning when police foiled CLP leader Bhatti Vikramarka’s fast-unto death and shifted him to Nims hospital.
Bhatti, who is on a fast-unto death since Saturday against merging of 12 Congress MLA’s into the ruling party in the house, was shifted to Nims hospital after his health condition deteriorated.
A large number of policemen surrounded dharna Chowk where the CLP leader was fasting. His supporters tried to resist the arrest but the police personnel dispersed them and took Bhatti to hospital.
Doctors at the government-run hospital said the CLP leader was refusing to take medication and continuous his fast in the hospital.
Bhatti Vikramarka took up the indefinite fast to exert pressure on Assembly Speaker P Srinivas Reddy to disqualify the 12 Congress MLAs who defected to the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS).
Terming it an ‘undemocratic’ action by the Speaker, who recognized the merger of the Congress Legislative Party into TRS on June 6, hours after their request, the Congress leader kicked off the fast on Saturday.
The Congress tally in the 119-member Assembly has come down to six due to the merger and is likely to close the position of opposition.
AIMIM, which have seven seats in the House, the second largest party in the House after merging of CLP with TRS, urged the Speaker earlier to provide Leader of opposition status in the Assembly.
