Former West Indies batsman Seymour Nurse dead at 85

New Delhi,  : Legendary former West Indies batsman Seymour Nurse has passed away after a prolonged illness on Monday. He was 85.
Former West Indies opener Desmond Haynes took to social media to share the news of Nurse’s demise.
“My coach my mentor, we all from the holders hill area love this man, we used to walk like Seymour bat like him and try to talk like him. Thanks for everything you have done for me. May he Rest In Peace and rise in glory,” Haynes wrote.
The middle order batsman made his Test debut against England in 1960. Since his debut, he had been suffering from injuries till 1966.
In 1966, against the English team in England, the wristy and artistic Nurse scored 501 runs in five Tests, included four fifties and a hundred.
Nurse scored 2,523 runs with 47.6 average. He had scored six hundreds and 10 fifties in just 29 Tests during his nine years international career.
He finished his Test career with a brilliant double ton against New Zealand at Christchurch in 1968-69. He was also named Wisden Cricketer of the Year in 1967.
He also served as a Barbados cricket selector and a coach besides working in the capacity of a government cricket coach at the National Sports Council.
He is survived by his twin daughters-Roseanne and Cherylanne Nurse.
