Sensex up by 117 pts

Mumbai, Apr 2 : The benchmark index of Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) on Tuesday rallied by 117 points at 38,988.57 as buying was seen in material, finance, telecom, utilities and auto stocks.
The Nifty of National Stock Exchange (NSE) too rose by 42 points to 11,711.55.
The sensex registered intra-day high and low at 39,017.24 and 38,846.96 points respectively.
The Nifty recorded intra-day high and low at 11,711.55 and 11,655.85 points respectively.
The sectoral indices include Material, Finance, Telecom, Utilities and Auto stocks kept the market firm in opening trade.
The gainers were Bharti Airtel by 4.22 pc to Rs 354.60, Tata Motors by 2.59 pc to Rs 192, Powergrid by 2.48 pc to Rs 200.45 and Tata Motors DVR by 2.43 pc to Rs 94.70.
The losers were HCL Technology by 1.43 pc to Rs 1093.50, Bajaj Auto by 1.15 pc to Rs 2884, ICICI Bank by 1.03 pc to Rs 394.65 and Tata Steel by 0.94 pc to Rs 529.70.
