Tulips beautify Civil Secretariat at Jammu, fully bloom at Poonch, Kud

Jammu, Mar 19 (UNI) For the first time, the Civil Secretariat has been beautified with colourful high breed Tulip flowers here.
Though whenever it comes to mind of Tulips, one reminds of mountainous destination with cool breeze blowing around but for the first time, the Civil Secretariat of Jammu has been beautified with more than 500 Tulip flowers.
It is believed that the temperature of Jammu is not feasible for Tulips to grow but the Department of Floriculture finally made it possible initially on experimental basis.
An official here told UNI, “Tulip is hardly grown in Jammu because these species of flowers need cold climatic conditions to grow and the period, when the buds bloom, by that time, temperature starts soaring in Jammu.”
The flowers are grown at some places opposite Administrative Block.
“This year, as it rained a lot and weather condition was harsh, crop was planted with all precautions taken and finally, flowers bloomed in first week of March,” he said.
He further said that senior officials were also interested in growing Tulips at the Civil Secretariat.
Pertinent to mention here that the Civil Secretariat Complex is already closed for general public in view of Corona Virus threat as preventive measure.
He said that high breed Tulip flowers like Nigerita (Purple), Red impression (Red), Purissima (White), String Gold (Yellow) are grown in the Secretariat Complex.
“Generally the bulbs are ready by December but due to inclement weather conditions, they were quarantined in the month of January and the flowers bloomed in March,” he added.
The official said that Tulip gardens are also in full bloom in Poonch and in Kud area of Udhampur district.
“Top quality tulip flowers, similar which are grown in Srinagar, are in full bloom at Poonch and Kud,” he said and added that in future also, Tulips will be grown in the Civil Secretariat.
