No Potable Water for 10 Days: Protest Erupts in Srinagar’s Batamaloo Area

Srinagar, April 29,: Women residents of the Mir Abad locality in Batamaloo area of Srinagar on Wednesday staged a protest demonstration against acute water scarcity, blocking a key road and disrupting traffic movement in the area.
The protest erupted after locals said that there has been no supply of potable water in the locality for the past 10 days, forcing residents to face severe hardship in managing daily needs. The demonstrators, mostly women, assembled on the road carrying empty containers and blocked vehicular movement to press for immediate restoration of water supply.
Protesters said repeated pleas to the concerned authorities have failed to yield any result, prompting them to take to the streets. They alleged that the administration has remained unresponsive despite the prolonged disruption in basic services.
“We have been without drinking water for the last 10 days. Our children and elderly are suffering, but nobody is listening to us,” a protesting woman said, demanding urgent intervention.
The road blockade led to traffic congestion in parts of Batamaloo. Locals said they were left with no option but to protest publicly as their concerns were not addressed through routine channels.
The protesters demanded immediate restoration of potable water supply and accountability from the officials responsible for ensuring basic civic amenities. [KNT]
