Srinagar, April 9: A persistent drainage leakage in Syed Rehmanai Market in the Brein Nishat area on the outskirts of Srinagar has been causing foul smell and inconvenience to shopkeepers, with the issue remaining unresolved for several months.
Traders in the market said the leakage has led to stagnant water accumulation near shops, creating unhygienic conditions and affecting daily business activities.
Shopkeepers stated that the problem has continued for around six months, with repeated inconvenience due to odor and unsanitary surroundings.
Local traders have appealed to the Lakes and Waterways Development Authority (LAWDA) and the District Administration Srinagar to intervene and resolve the issue at the earliest.
They said the situation requires urgent attention to prevent further deterioration of sanitation conditions in the area.
Drainage and sanitation issues in market areas often lead to public health concerns and disruption of commercial activity, particularly when left unaddressed for extended periods.
The matter awaits action from the concerned departments. [KNT]
