Cattle Theft Reported in Two Villages in Tral, Four Animals Stolen Overnight

Pulwama, March 24,: Unidentified thieves stole four cattle from two villages in South Kashmir’s Tral area of Pulwama district during the intervening night, villagers and officials said on Tuesday.

The thefts were reported from Auligund and Pernad villages, where cattle sheds were targeted and portions of walls dismantled to gain access, they said.

The incidents have raised concern among local inhabitants, as livestock forms a key source of livelihood for many rural households in the area. Villagers said such thefts not only result in financial losses but also create a sense of insecurity in otherwise quiet villages.

According to locals, three cattle belonging to Haider Shah of Pernad village were stolen after thieves broke into his cowshed by dismantling part of the wall. In a separate incident, one cattle belonging to Nisar Ahmed Lone of Auligund village was also stolen in a similar manner.

Officials said that police teams visited both locations soon after the incidents were reported and carried out preliminary inspections.

“A portion of the cowshed wall had been broken to facilitate entry. We have taken cognizance of the incidents and further investigation has been initiated,” an official said.

Police sources said efforts are underway to identify those involved, including examining possible leads and movement patterns in the area during the night. [KNT]
