Mughal Road Reopens for Traffic, LMVs Ply Smoothly

Shopian, Feb 27,: The historic Mughal Road was reopened for traffic on Friday after remaining closed due to recent snowfall, with Light Motor Vehicles allowed to ply smoothly along the stretch.

Officials said the strategic road connecting Shopian in South Kashmir with Poonch in the Jammu region was thrown open following clearance operations carried out by the concerned agencies. Snow accumulated at several vulnerable points along the Pir Panjal range had rendered the road temporarily unfit for traffic earlier this week.

After reviewing the surface condition and ensuring safe passage, authorities permitted movement of LMVs on the route. Traffic officials confirmed that vehicles were moving without disruption and no major bottlenecks were reported during the initial hours after reopening.

The Mughal Road serves as an alternate link between the Kashmir Valley and the Jammu division and is frequently closed during winter months due to heavy snowfall in high-altitude sections such as Peer Ki Gali.

Authorities advised commuters to follow traffic advisories and adhere to safety guidelines while travelling on the mountainous stretch. [KNT]
