Gulmarg Road Restrictions Announced Ahead of Expected Snowfall

Gulmarg, Dec 20,: Authorities have announced strict traffic restrictions on the Tangmarg–Gulmarg road from Saturday morning in view of an adverse weather forecast, with snowfall expected to begin during the night. The measures are aimed at ensuring safe travel on the steep and slippery stretch leading to the famous ski resort.

Officials said only hatchbacks and SUVs equipped with anti-skid chains or 4×4 capability will be allowed to move on the Gulmarg Tangmarg road. All buses, tempo travellers and heavy vehicles have been barred from using the route until weather conditions improve. Two-wheelers and three-wheelers have also been completely restricted from travelling on the stretch.

Traffic officials said the precautionary curbs have been put in place to avoid accidents on the serpentine road, which often becomes treacherous during snowfall. They urged travellers to strictly follow the advisory, carry required safety gear and avoid unnecessary travel during the expected weather disturbance.

Authorities said the restrictions will remain in force till road conditions stabilize and adequate clearance measures are completed. [KNT]
