Twelve Family Members Fall Unconscious in Handwara, Suspected Food Poisoning

Handwara:Twelve members of a family from Nowgam village in Handwara were hospitalised after they fell unconscious during the night hours due to suspected food poisoning, officials said on Monday.

According to health officials, the affected individuals developed symptoms shortly after dinner. Family members alerted neighbours, who shifted all twelve to the nearby NTPHC for urgent medical assistance. Health workers at the facility provided initial treatment before referring the entire group to GMC Handwara for specialised care.

Medical teams at GMC Handwara said all twelve patients are stable and under continuous observation. Doctors are conducting tests to determine the exact cause of the incident. Preliminary assessment suggests food contamination as the likely source.

Locals from the village gathered near the hospital through the morning hours, expressing concern and seeking assurance about the family’s condition. Officials said the situation is under control and further updates will be shared once medical reports are available.

Authorities are also expected to examine the household food samples to confirm the cause of poisoning and rule out any other factors. [KNT]
