
Kupwara, Nov 20,: Police in Qalamabad area of North Kashmir’s Kupwara district recovered a pistol, ammunition and a quantity of heroin-like substance following disclosures made by two persons earlier detained by SOG Handwara for subversive-related questioning. The recovery was made during a search operation conducted near Puthwari Nowgam in Mawer belt under the supervision of DySP Operations Kralgund.
Officials said the two individuals, Lateef Ahmad Khan and Shahnawaz Ahmad Khan of the same locality, had been taken for questioning in connection with an ongoing investigation. Based on their disclosure, a joint police team recovered one pistol, one magazine, seven rounds and nearly 890 grams of a heroin-like substance from the area near Nallah Mawer.
Police said an FIR under number 38 of 2025 has been registered at Police Station Qalamabad under sections 8, 21 and 29 of the NDPS Act, 7 and 25 of the Indian Arms Act and sections 13, 18, 23 and 39 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.
Officials said more searches are likely as part of the ongoing probe. [KNT]
