. Gelatin sticks blast claims 6 in K’taka; PM, CM condole

Chikkaballapura, Feb 23:  As many as six people were killed in an explosion that occurred due to gelatin sticks at a stone quarry site here on Tuesday.

According to police, the deceased were trying to dispose off the gelatin sticks but it accidentally exploded.
Karnataka Health Minister K Sudhakar, who represents the Chikkaballapur constituency visited the spot and said the bodies of the victims were badly mutilated and scattered all over the place. According to police, the incident took place at Hirenagavalli near Peresandra.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that he was pained by the loss of lives and offered his condolences to the bereaved families. “Praying that the injured recover quickly,” he said.
A similar blast had occurred on January 22 when a gelatin-laden truck had exploded at Hunasodu village in Shivamogga, killing six people.
Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa assured the people of strict action against the culprits. “The death of 6 people near Hirenagavalli village, Chikkaballapur, due to a gelatin blast is shocking. District incharge minister and senior officials instructed to conduct a thorough probe and take stern action against the culprits,” the CM said.
