Srinagar:A three-storied residential house was gutted in a fire incident that broke out on Friday in Faizabad Colony of Naikbagh Nowgam area on the outskirts of Srinagar. The blaze caused extensive damage to the property before it was brought under control by fire and emergency services.
Officials from the Fire and Emergency Services Department told the news agency Kashmir News Trust that soon after receiving the distress call, fire tenders from multiple stations, including Nowgam, Rawalpora, and Gowkadal, were dispatched to the spot. The teams worked for several hours to contain the flames and successfully prevented the fire from spreading to adjoining houses in the densely populated area.
Eyewitnesses said thick plumes of smoke and flames engulfed the building, triggering panic among locals who joined in helping firemen douse the flames.
While the cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained, officials said preliminary investigation suggests an electrical short circuit could be the reason. No casualties or injuries were reported in the incident.
Police have taken cognizance of the matter and are assessing the extent of the damage. [KNT]
