Jammu :Reacting sharply to the Congress Party’s decision to support the National Conference (NC) candidate in the upcoming Nagrota Assembly by-election, Leader of Opposition and senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Sunil Sharma accused Congress of having “no political identity left” in Jammu and Kashmir.
Speaking to the news agency Kashmir News Trust, Sharma said the Congress decision clearly indicates that the party has completely surrendered to the National Conference and has become politically subservient to the Abdullah family.
“Congress has no identity of its own. It has handed itself over to the Abdullah family, where all its decisions are taken in the kitchen of the Abdullahs,” Sharma said.
He alleged that instead of building an independent political narrative, the Congress Party has become a tool for the National Conference to further its political agenda in Jammu and Kashmir. “This alliance is not about principles or ideology; it’s purely an arrangement for political survival,” he remarked.
The BJP leader added that by giving up the Nagrota seat to the NC, the Congress has sent a clear message that it lacks confidence in its own candidates and has lost ground among the people. “The Congress Party has lost its credibility and relevance in Jammu and Kashmir. People no longer see it as a viable political alternative,” Sharma said.
Sunil Sharma further claimed that the BJP remains the only party with a clear vision and an independent decision-making structure in the Union Territory. “While the Congress and NC are busy appeasing each other, BJP is focused on development, governance, and national integration,” he said.
The Congress recently announced that it would not field a candidate from the Nagrota Assembly constituency and would instead support the NC nominee as part of its broader strategy to consolidate opposition unity and counter the BJP. [KNT]
