Sunil Sharma Accuses National Conference of “Spreading Hatred” for Political Gains, Says Law and Order Improved Under BJP

Srinagar: Leader of Opposition in Jammu and Kashmir and senior BJP leader Sunil Sharma on Wednesday launched a scathing attack on the National Conference and Congress, accusing them of misleading people and being responsible for the eruption of militancy in the Union Territory.

Addressing a press conference, Sharma said militancy in Jammu and Kashmir took root during the rule of the National Conference and Congress. “During the Omar Abdullah government, there were over 7,000 law and order incidents. In contrast, during our tenure, only 18 such incidents occurred. This itself shows how peace has returned under BJP rule,” he said.

He urged the people of Jammu and Kashmir to “look at the BJP through the prism of positivity,” adding that schools are functioning normally, businesses are thriving, and public life has largely stabilized. “The NC has always misled the people of Kashmir about the BJP. They thrive on creating hatred and division,” Sharma alleged.

Taking a direct dig at Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Sharma said, “Omar Abdullah is Chief Minister only because he belongs to the Abdullah family. He was born with a silver spoon in his mouth. They spread hatred about the Centre and make political capital out of it.”

He accused the National Conference of deceiving people while secretly holding influence over government machinery. “The NC claims to be out of power, but every file lies with them. They are habitual liars with no limit to their deceit. Their campaign against the BJP and the Centre is a political tool for the Budgam Assembly by-election,” Sharma said.

He emphasized that the Budgam seat holds little significance for the BJP but said his party would continue to raise public issues. “We will question what happened to the committees formed for reservation and daily wagers. Not a single consolidated worker has been made permanent so far,” he remarked.

The BJP leader as per the news agency Kashmir News Trust, further said that the law and order situation today is peaceful, unlike during the NC’s tenure when “young men and children were blinded.” Admitting that the BJP might not win all four Rajya Sabha seats, he asserted that the party would “continue to stand for transparency and governance.”

Commenting on Ladakh, Sharma said the situation there is “completely normal” and that all pending issues would be resolved through dialogue. He also confirmed that the recent release of Rs 171 crore by the Centre was exclusively meant for farmers under the PM-KISAN scheme. [KNT]
