Gulmarg : The popular hill station of Gulmarg in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district received its first snowfall of the season on Monday, marking the beginning of winter in the higher reaches of the Valley. Light to moderate snowfall was reported at Kongdoori and adjoining areas early in the morning.
The fresh spell covered meadows, pine forests, rooftops, and slopes with a thin layer of snow, lending the resort a serene appearance. Officials from the Meteorological Department said the snowfall was seasonal in nature and resulted from a western disturbance passing over north Kashmir.

Tourists and locals were seen stepping outdoors to witness the change in landscape. Many visitors were seen taking photographs and videos as snowflakes descended over the meadows. Local shopkeepers said the snowfall brought renewed activity to the area, as tourists stopped by to enjoy tea and snacks at roadside stalls.
Officials from the Tourism Department said all roads leading to Gulmarg were open and traffic was moving smoothly, though motorists were advised to drive carefully due to slippery conditions.
A tourism official said the early snowfall is likely to boost local business activity and marks a promising start to the winter tourism season.
