First Snowfall of the Season Blankets Sinthan Top in Kishtwar

Kishtwar:The famous Sinthan Top in Kishtwar district witnessed the season’s first snowfall on Friday, transforming the high-altitude pass into a white wonder and drawing excitement among locals and visitors.

The early October snowfall brought a sudden change in weather as higher reaches in the Pir Panjal range turned white, while surrounding mid-elevations experienced a sharp drop in temperature. Light showers were also reported in nearby areas, adding to the chill in the air.

Tourists who had reached the scenic Sinthan Top expressed joy at witnessing fresh snow so early in the season. “It feels like winter has arrived already. The landscape looks stunning and it is a lifetime experience to see snowfall in October,” said a traveller from Jammu, capturing photos of the snow-laden peaks.

Locals said the fresh spell has raised hopes for a brisk tourism season in the coming months, especially with Sinthan Top increasingly becoming a preferred destination for adventure lovers and sightseers.

Officials from the Meteorological Department confirmed that higher reaches of Kishtwar, including Sinthan Top, received light to moderate snowfall, while plains of the district experienced rain. They said more precipitation is expected in the coming days, with temperatures likely to dip further.[KNT]
