Bar Association Kargil Suspends Judicial Work for Six Days in Protest Over Leh Killings

Kargil, Oct 1,: The Bar Association Kargil has announced suspension of all judicial work for six days as a mark of respect and protest over the killing of four civilians in police firing during protests in Leh on September 24. The association also pledged free legal assistance to victims of the violence and called upon the Union Territory administration of Ladakh to order a judicial probe.

In a solidarity message, the association expressed its deepest condolences to the “martyrs who laid down their lives while striving for the rights of the people of Ladakh.” The message, signed by the association’s president, said that lawyers across Kargil will refrain from all judicial duties from October 1 to October 6, 2025.

“The Bar Association Kargil strongly urges the UT administration to ensure a free, fair, and impartial judicial inquiry into the matter so that justice is served and accountability is upheld,” the statement read.

The association underscored its commitment to extend free legal aid to any victim of the September 24 incident. Lawyers said they would take up cases on behalf of victims and their families to ensure that their grievances are addressed in courts and before authorities. [KNT]
