Sonamarg:A road accident on the treacherous Zojila stretch of the Srinagar-Kargil highway on Monday left five people injured, including a minor girl, when a Santro car collided with a stationary truck near Ranga Mode.
Police sources told the news agency Kashmir News Trust that the Santro car bearing registration number JK02GB-9929 was on its way from Sonamarg towards Kargil when the driver lost control of the vehicle and rammed into a truck parked at the roadside. The impact of the collision left all five occupants injured. Locals present at the site rushed to help the victims before the police team from Sonamarg Police Station arrived to begin rescue operations.
The injured were immediately shifted to the Primary Health Centre (PHC) Sonamarg, where doctors provided first aid. However, owing to the severity of their injuries, three of the victims were later referred to Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) Soura in Srinagar for advanced treatment. Hospital officials confirmed that the condition of the minor girl was reported as stable, while the other victims continued to receive specialized medical care.
Police said the accident was caused by overspeeding. “The Santro was moving at a high speed and crashed into the truck, which was stationary due to a technical fault. There was no fault of the truck driver,” a police official said, adding that a formal case has been registered and investigations are underway [KNT]
