Srinagar: Cyber Police Kashmir has cautioned the public against falling prey to an online investment scam being operated through a mobile application called Zoopedia and the website zoopedia.com.
In its advisory, Cyber Police stated that unsuspecting people are being lured into registering on the platform under the pretext of rating online content. At the initial stage, users are offered small payments for completing simple tasks, which builds trust. Once confidence is gained, fraudsters reportedly promise high returns and persuade users to invest larger amounts ranging between Rs 1,950 and Rs 24,000.
The advisory explained that once victims invest bigger sums, they allegedly find themselves unable to withdraw their supposed earnings. The handlers behind the platform then disappear, causing financial losses to the public.
Authorities have urged citizens to remain alert and avoid such fraudulent schemes. Cyber Police has also appealed to those affected to file complaints on www.cybercrime.gov.in or reach out to the helpline number 1930. [KNT]
