Home Minister Amit Shah returns to Delhi after Jammu visit, Likely to brief PM Modi on flood situation

Srinagar, Sept 02: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday evening returned to the National Capital after an extensive two-day visit to Jammu, where he reviewed the flood-hit areas, met victims, and assured them of the Centre’s full support in relief and rehabilitation efforts.

During his visit, Shah personally interacted with affected families in the worst-hit areas of Jammu and directed the administration to ensure speedy disbursal of compensation and rehabilitation assistance.

He also chaired a high-level meeting in Jammu to review the overall security situation in the Union Territory.

“The Prime Minister and the Government of India stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the people of Jammu and Kashmir in this hour of crisis. Every possible support — will be extended to bring normalcy back to people’s lives,” Shah assured while addressing locals in flood-ravaged areas.

Meanwhile sources told news agency Kashmir Indepth News Service (KINS) that the Home Minister is likely to brief Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the situation.

PM Modi, who returned to Delhi after concluding his visits to China and Japan, has been closely monitoring developments in J&K since the onset of the disaster.

Since August 14, Jammu and Kashmir has witnessed widespread devastation due to cloudbursts, flash floods, and landslides. More than 130 lives have been lost, and 33 people remain missing. Among the deceased are 34 Vaishno Devi pilgrims who tragically died in a massive landslide near the shrine route on August 26.

A senior official told KINS, “The Home Minister’s ground visit shows the urgency and seriousness with which the Central government is addressing this disaster. (KINS)
