Handwara Police Nab Two Drug Peddlers; Poppy Straw Seized

Handwara, August 5, : As part of its sustained efforts to combat drug trafficking, Handwara Police arrested two drug peddlers during a naka checking at Zand Batpora, falling under the jurisdiction of Police Post Langate.

The arrested individuals have been identified as:Showkat Ahmad Kalo, son of Farooq Ahmad Kalo, resident of Kanyari Hajin, Bandipora

Manzoor Ahmad Nadroo, son of Abdul Aziz Nadroo, resident of Sher Colony, Tarzoo Sopore

During search, police recovered 2.90 kg and 1.54 kg of poppy straw (poppy flakes) from their possession, respectively.

A case FIR No. 179/2025 under Sections 8/15 of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Handwara, and both accused have been taken into custody.

Further investigation is in progress to unearth the source of the contraband and identify others involved in the illegal trade.

Handwara Police reaffirms its zero-tolerance policy against drug abuse and urges the public to report any drug-related activities in their area. Identity of informants will be kept confidential.
