Forces attacking Kashmiris working under the patronage of Central Govt: Omar Abdullah

Srinagar, Feb 21, Former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah Thursday castigated Government of India for being mute over the repeated attacks on Kashmiris in different parts of India. He said that even those who grace constitutional positions spew venom against people of Kashmir.

While addressing a press conference here in Kashmir capital Srinagar, Omar Abdullah said that the incidents that occurred after Pulwama attack in which Kashmiris were targeted are unfortunate and unacceptable. “A propaganda is being done to malign the image of Kashmir and its populace. All over the country and especially in some areas, an entire population is being maligned. Our students outside the state, with no connection to politics, are being targeted and expelled,” he said.

Omar Abdullah said that it seems that these forces have the permission and blessing of New Delhi. “A governor openly called for boycott of Kashmiris. We were hoping this would be condemned. This is disgusting and speaks a lot,” Omar said.

Omar Abdullah lamented that the Prime Minister of the country is quiet and sadly even the top leadership of opposition is quiet. “We thought Congress will make a statement, but that didn’t happen. Kashmiris are being targeted for the fault of their none and politicians are playing politics. Students who have no affiliation with political parties are manhandled and hounded,” he said adding that miscreants and goons are being given free hand.

“We see on social media and mainstream media that hotels have been kept out of bounds for Kashmiris. Such forces are working under the patronage of central government,” he alleged adding that it will certainly backfire and create more alienation.

Omar Abdullah said that they never propagate hate and violence. “We’have never been in favor of violence and terror. We only vouched for solution through dialogue. When we talk of dialogue we are branded anti-nationals but in joint statement with Saudi Arabia, the two leaders talk about composite dialogue,” he added.
